The first thing on each line is the spell that he uses. The other thing is the state of the work in progress after he casts the spell.

You know, I love these puzzles but (a) haven't figured out how to make a program that will do this easily w/o using a simple 'brute force' method, and more importantly (b) design similar puzzles myself.
Thats what I get for enterring the workforce in an unrelated field.
