You count my sides only when there are four of them. What am I?

No, a polygon. Tri-ANGLE, quadri-LATERAL, penta-GON, hexa-GON, etc.

I often count the sides of polygons when there are more than four sides (most people couldn't tell an irregular nonagon from an irregular decagon without counting the sides). A better answer would be 'A baseball game', but I felt that the 'turkey' answer is more appropriate since the Thanksgiving holiday occurs this week in the U.S.

No. I think his point is that with a 3-sided figure (triangle), we count the ANGLES. But with 4 sided figures on upwards (quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, etc) we count the SIDES.
Unfortunately, I also have referred to 4 and 5 sided figures as quadrangles and pentangles.
