I thought the standard Rubik's Magic was 4x2. I've never seen a 6x2 of any sort, much less multiple varieties thereof.

Also, please don't post non-text files to a newsgroup unless it has 'binaries' in the title. (There are a few newsgroups whose charter explicitly permits small binaries - rec.games.bolo is one, I think - but these are rare.) Two reasons:

1) Some people have to pay for their bandwidth by the minute. You've just caused them to download 250K that they may not have wanted.

2) News servers have only so much disk space in which to store the thousands upon millions of messages posted to several thousand different newsgroups. You've just crowded out 250K worth of old text messages with your one single message.

Common etiquette in a situation like yours is to upload the pictures to a web page, or to the alt.binaries newsgroup, and then post a text message here with a link to where the pictures are located. That way, people who want the pictures can get them with little trouble; people who don't want them (both end users and news servers) are impacted only by your text message, which is usually about 100 times smaller.

Ed,

I'm sorry about that... I didn't realise that the pictures were that large... I must have accidentally sent the large ones instead of the resized ones... By the way: are you an operator of this newsgroup? Did you delete my post because of the attachments or is there some other reason it doesn't show up in my newsreader?

Kind regards, Wouter Sonneveldt

It's not just large binaries, it's all binaries that are disallowed. It's a text forum. There are a few other points you might be interested in:

1. Top posting is generally frowned on. Quote only the text televant to your message, and reply under it. 2. Don't post to any ng until you know the etiquette that pertains, which you generally learn by following the group for some time.

Your message didn't show up possibly because your own carrier blocked it. There is no moderator here, just an unusually high ratio of self-appointed militants :>

It's also possible that your message was cancelled by a 'bot somewhere else. These cancellations don't affect all servers. Some Ignore them, some don't get them, some get them only after they passed your message on.

I have seen this puzzle! It is larger than the original one and grey, I believe. I used to have it in fact (about 12 years ago at least)!!

I knew how to solve it, but can't for the life of me think how now. As to it's value... not a clue!

Have fun!

I have one; bought it shortly after the Magic craze, somewhere in the back of the 80s. They are more vulnerable to breaking than the original, so I wouldn't be surprised if lots of them were torn apart, making the surviving ones somewhat rare.

Is the background grey/silver or black? The original Rubik puzzle that measures 6x2 has a grey/silver background. I have that one too, but I also have one with a black background with round rings instead of ovals. Also the rings are solid colors, 1 red, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 blue and 1 green... I think it is a rare one because I cannot find pictures or description of it anywhere on the Internet...

Background is silver; has Rubik's signature printed on it.

Christ, the last thing we need is a debate of which style is better. You should really you 'You generally frown upon'. Look, I know you probably mena well. I've just seen waaaaay too many fights over which style is better, and from experiece over the past decade, it's better just not to go there.

True. But you msut also be careful here, as what *you* might consider proper etiquette migght not necissaryly occur to someone else. IMHO I think it's not too wise to generalize everythign in the context of 'we' as if you were a seaker for every person. Yuo are speaking for your self, and maybe a few others, and I understand you are doing so for good reasons too. I ma not putting you down or anything. Like I 've said, I've seen far too many eqtiquette wars (or rather, netiquette). It's posts like these that have commonly sparked such wars. God forbid that happens here, as this seems to be a rather peaceful group. I know you mean well, and I do too ;p

I don't see the original message either, but instead I see Ed Murphy's post at the root of this thread. I guess some other carriers block bulk posts as well, so to speak ;p

Hmm... Too bad... That's the original one... Mine has two signatures... Of two Japanese people... And instead of the matchbox logo, there is a logo that has the same look, but with the text 'V.V.V. Puzzle' (without the quotes)...

By the way, do you know of any newsgroup(s) that might be more appropriate for this topic, because i don't think this is the right one is it?

IIRC, it was called 'Rubik's Magic Deluxe' or 'Deluxe Magic' or something similar. Searching on those terms yielded very few results, though. I don't remember the dimensions, but I used to have one. I may still, in fact, buried in some box somewhere, if my mom didn't throw it away when I moved out. Hopefully it's intact, but it may not be in very good condition.
