I found this list of US cities on a web site (so no googling to find the answer, eh?) The list was compiled in 2001 by the people running the web site, they say, but is not directly related to the actual topic that the web site is about. On what basis is the list ordered?

1. Pittsburgh, PA 2. Tucson, AZ 3. Cincinnati, OH 4. Albuquerque, NM 5. Culpeper, VA 6. Asheville, NC 7. Worcester, MA 8. Manhattan, NY 9. Phoenix, AZ 10. Niagara Falls, NY 11. Fredericksburg, VA 12. Philadelphia, PA 13. Detroit, MI 14. Chattanooga, TN 15. Gloucester, MA

This guess is correct. 43 minutes from posting time of the question to posting time of the answer.

Probably with a 'riot'.

I wonder how they arrived at the list? It must be based on the relative frequency of misspellings, because surely more people have misspelled Manhattan than have ever even wanted to spell Culpeper VA, rightly or

Albuquerque is itself a misspelling of sorts. It was named after the Spanish town of Alburquerque. Wikipedia: 'The first 'r' was dropped at some point in the 19th century, supposedly by an Anglo-American station-master unable to correctly pronounce the city's name.'

Oh, and: 'The original extra 'r' in Alburquerque is remembered in a modern local slang term for the city: Burque. Additionally, the Central Avenue Trolley Buses were emblazoned with the name Alburquerque in honor of the city's historic name.'

Well, firstly, any application such as a word processor can use such a file, because you can usually open any file regardless of extension if you're so inclined; and secondly, 'QUE = Scheduler QUEue object', says http://www.icdatamaster.com/q.html . It could also be a CuteFTP queue file.

Cheers
