suppose you have a sheet of paper 1,000,000,000x8.5inches and you roll it up along the long axis. assuming 0.1mm x sqrt(N) where N is the number of revolutions, is the space between adjacent sheets after each revolution, what is the width of the resulting roll of paper to the nearest integer?

spanking space

Because you deserve to be spanked for that.

First off, what does 'to the nearest integer' mean in this context?

The width is 8.5 inches, the width of the original strip of paper.

'But how many were going the other way?' You did not give enough information to solve for the number of loops. For example, if you rolled the silly thing so the first loop was just slightly less than half the full length, there would be two loops with circumferunce just short of half the original length. A strip that long would certainly be able to be looped more tightly and make more loops, so you would certainly be able to get the outer circumference down by at least a couple factors of ten by increasing the number of loops.

yes i was drunk when i wrote this one. ok. assume the thickness of the paper is 0.5mm and you start by wrapping the paper around a 8.5 inch 'core' which is a cylinder with diameter 2 inches. what is the solution to the nearest inch?

I reckon the radius of the completed roll will be 2503 inches.
