Making 'synonym rolls'

What's the longest list of synonyms that you can create, where each word is a synonym of the previous and following words, but not the other words? For example:

paddle row quarrel bolt run line fill ...

Note that words can be used to make interesting puzzles. For example, 'What one word is a synonym of both 'row' and 'bolt''? One answer is 'quarrel', which can mean either a fight ('row', or a crossbow arrow ('bolt'.

A minor nitpick: 'row' is a synonym of 'line'. I know you did say 'example', so don't bother about it too much.

..

answer is 'quarrel',

I did this with MS WORD. It might not be what you are after, but it should add to the discussion of what you are after.

...erm... these are more like antonyms yes?

And I'm not sure how you get this as a synonym of 'absolve'?

Definitely pushing it here. If 'counter' and 'table' are synonyms then 'bar' is a synonym of 'table' too.

Same objection here, 'suit' is equally allied to both 'jacket' and 'cover'

This gets really difficult really quickly.

Case in point: 'pinch' and 'block' have synonymous meanings.

Perhaps restricting the 'like the adjacent words but not others' to within a range?

It seems like the motivation for that rule is to eliminate a series of more than two synonyms. In other words (no pun intended), to make sure every word in the list uses different meanings to by synonymous with its two neighbors.

Is that what you had in mind for that rule, Carl?

If so, the rule could be relaxed to just state that a word can't be a synonym of the words two steps away.
