What is the longest word you can think of where:

*No letter in the word is duplicated.

*No letter in the word is next to any other letter in the word according to the letters' alphabetical orders. (No 'c' next to a 'b' or to a 'd', for example.)

*No letter in the word is duplicated AND no letter in the word is next to any other letter in the word according to the letters' alphabetical orders.

Well, 'duplicate' gives you 9 straight off.

Interesting cases given in the responses to my original questions, but I actually miswrote the final 2 questions.

I meant:

*No letter in the word is next to ANY other letter in the word according to the letters' alphabetical orders, no matter where the letters occur within the word in relation to each other. (A couple of examples give words that have a 'd' near the words' beginning and an 'e' near the words' ending. These examples would be disallowed.)

*No letter in the word is duplicated, AND no letter in the word is next to ANY other letter in the word according to the letters' alphabetical orders, no matter where the letters occur within the word in relation to each other.

Yes, but if we assume that the puzzle gets super-exponentially more difficult as the length of the word increases then 50 times as fast is not nearly good enough.

Anyway, I figured that the best strategy was to find a word that contained all 6 vowels exactly once, and the only such word I knew off the top of my head was 'questionably'. As it turns out, the best answer in the FAQ also contains all 6 vowels:
