This is a repost and clarification.

** JUUITCHAN'S RARE ENTRIES CONTEST number one **

This one runs from now until Dec. 22 00:00 GMT. This is so it won't conflict with Mark's contest.

0. Name an anime that begins with a ka gyou kana. (Ka gyou = the kana letters ka, ki, ku, ke, ko. If you want to put dakuten and make ga, gi, gu, ge, go, go ahead.) Example: If I had said Ra gyou, you could make Lina Inverse = rina inbaasu. But I said Ka gyou so you can't use that. I go by whatever name it is called in Japan. (This is a lot less esoteric than some of the other fields of knowledge called for in this type of game.)

1. Name a substance emitted by the human body that is not the result of something going wrong. Said substance must be present *outside* the body for it to count.

2. Name an English verb expressing a (non-human) animal sound. Not something like 'cry', that is too generic.

3. Name an arcade game in which a final score of exactly 2,101 is feasible. The game's score indicator must be capable of showing this number, and it must be reasonably within the bounds of what a person can score (in a basketball simulator, for instance, there may be no theoretical limit on scoring, but really, can you get 2,101 points??)

4. Name a commercially available music album with total playing time of 1 hour, 0 minutes, 49 seconds.

5. Name a music group with at least one commercially available song, whose (the group's) name is a positive integer written as a string of decimal digits and pronounced as a number. The group '311' would not count as it is called 'three eleven', not as 'three hundred eleven' or 'three hundred and eleven'. The name need not be the English name for the number. If a language requires separators with large numbers (example: two million as 2 000 000 or as 2,000,000), those are allowed. If you name a song by this group, you will receive 1 bonus point. Don't worry about making the song-name different from everybody else's.

6. Name a brand of instant ramen. As much as I would love be able to receive it, my e-mail might eat hangul, so sorry. Though you are welcome to try and send it ^_^.

7. Give a one-syllable English word for an article of clothing. No brand names.

8. Name a size of battery.

9. Name a system of democratic voting intended for use when there are three or more candidates to choose between.

* with n.

This is a request for further clarification.

Am I the only one here who doesn't know what an anime is, or has never heard of kana, or dakuten, or Ra gyou? What is the purpose of this question? To make up random consonant-vowel combinations?

My dictionary defines anime (and animé) as the resin of the W Indian locust-tree. I am having difficulty fitting this definition into the context of the question.

answer that names a game that you personally have never played or seen? What if it's a game from, say, the early 1980s that doesn't happen to be mentioned on the Web?

You're joking, right?

I can't think of a single answer to this question.

That was the least of my worries.

Well, I think ramen is a Japanese dish of clear broth containing vegetables, noodles and often pieces of meat, but I can't actually tell whether this is the meaning you intend.

Sorry, I don't know what hangul is, either.

It is to add something Oriental to this test. The purpose of this question is to promote Japanese animation AKA anime.

How is this a joke? You can certainly research a music database for possible answers to this!

: digits and pronounced as a number. [snip] : If you name a song by this group, you will receive 1 bonus point.

Why would I want a bonus point in a competition whose aim is (usually) to score as low as possible?

I am not a golfer. You want golf scoring, I might do golf scoring too. But I am using another scoring system. It is described in my repost.

Come on Richard, if you don't like the questions or can't do the basic research to find out what 'anime' or 'instand ramen' means, no worries, don't enter the contest. But I don't think it's appropriate to post either a question on how Juuitchan will judge entries, rhetorical criticism of a question, or a profession of your own ignorance.

But I /did/ do this basic research, by consulting my trusty dictionary. It was unclear to me, however, whether my research was adequate, hence my questions.

I don't understand your objection. Are you claiming my reply was off-topic in this newsgroup? If so, I fail to see why. Of course, that could just be...

..., couldn't it? But that's all right; I don't mind being thought ignorant, for two reasons: (a) if it's true, then I am hardly in a position to object, and (b) if it's false, then I might just gain the advantage of surprise.

Now, I asked for clarification for a reason - I wasn't sure whether I wanted to enter the competition. Having read Juuitchan's response to my request for clarification, I am now in a position to make that decision, so my objective was achieved. If that process inconvenienced you in any way, I apologise.

I would take it as given in any of these psychology-based contests that you're not supposed to discuss the questions on the newsgroup. Admittedly, he didn't explicitly say this (and initially gave no scoring rules at all), but it seems fairly obvious given the nature of the contest, and the precedent set by most prior contests.

I'm confused as to what clarification you were looking for with 'You're joking, right?' and 'I can't think of a single answer to this question.' Were you expecting 'Yes, I am joking! Here's the real question.' and 'Here are some answers you might try.'

That's all right - we all get a little confused from time to time. Don't let it get you down.

Yes.

No, here I was expecting 'Oh my word, did I really ask that? Sheesh, guys, I'm sorry, what I really meant to ask was...'

Well, I guess it's time for me to reach for the ol' Dale Carnegie again. I never did get the hang of the first half...

Let me clarify further:

This contest is not a 'closed book test'. It is 'open book', and the Internet counts as a library of books.
