Inferences about the New York Jets

The following is an exerpt from today's newspaper:

They have eleven games so far, and we know they won 6 and lost 5.

As you say, they clearly won their last four.

We presume they didn't win the one just before that, or the text would say 'won their last five' instead of 'five of their last six'.

?????+-++++ (+1, -4)

This leaves us with five possibilities. We examine now how the start of the season might be described to see if a '2-5 start' is reasonable.

If we are allowed to make the assumption that they wouldn't say 'five of their last six' if they lost the first game (instead saying something like 'winners of 5 straight', we should know that the pattern of the last six games must have been WLWWWW.

If we go a step further and wonder why they haven't said 'six of their last seven,' we should realize that the previous game should have been a loss as well.

Of course, these both require assumptions. The only thing we know for sure is that it's either WLWWWW or LWWWWW over the last 6 games. The second seems unlikely, but it's possible.

As far as THIS Jet fan is concerned, any 5-1 streak is a good one.

If only a number of Jets players and coaches have forgotten, then we can also infer that Jets players & management personnel have pretty crappy memories.
