This puzzle is more of a contest. Try and come up with the most famous and recognizable film tag line. My pitch is from the Ridley Scott / Sigourney Weaver movie Alien:

IN SPACE, NO-ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM.

I reckon that this is a good entry because:

A) you'll have heard of it

and

you'll have a good chance of associating it with the movie ALIEN.

Any other entries which score highly on the A- and B- ometer?

'Hasta la vista, baby.'

If you care to apply a google metric: ['in space, no-one can hear you scream' alien] = 2.7 kGoogle ['Hasta la vista, baby' terminator] = 5.9 kGoogle

Although you may argue that a quote is not the same as a tagline.

['A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away' 'star wars'] = 19.1k Google

And it's a proper tag line.

It's hard to separate out the franchises (computer games and whatnot). Of course, the same goes for 'One Ring To Rule Them All.'

[scott 'in space, no-one can hear you scream'] = 779 [lucas 'long time ago in a galaxy far, far away'] = 6670 Google [jackson 'one ring to rule them all'] = 4170 Google

It is surprsing that the tagline for Titanic, 'Collide with Destiny', does so poorly. I dare say that is because of EDEB'S ctriterion Maybe it is easier to tag that movie by Celine Dion and her song?

How's about the JAWS one: 'just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water'? (I can't take credit for thinking of it though.)

But these all get a fair number of hits considering that they're from movies made more than 25 years ago

'They're here' - quote & tagline, Poltergeist Google: 130,000 results

Beat that.

I should check my facts before I make rash statements but I'm pretty sure this is the tag line for Jaws 2 ('*back* in the water). But the world and his wife think it's for Jaws. A great tag line but routinely associated with the wrong film?

Mainly because google disregards everything past 'back' (and many people substitute something else for the water), and you haven't used the director.

Jaws 2: 114 Google hits with [szwarc 'just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water']

Jaws: [spielberg 'don't go in the water'] 460 Google.

Not even close to EDEB's 'Alien'.

Better, actually: [donner 'you'll believe a man can fly'] = 924 [donner 'you will believe a man can fly'] = 165 total = 1089 Google.

We have a new 3rd place!

[avildsen 'His whole life was a million-to-one shot'] = 87 [stallone 'His whole life was a million-to-one shot'] = 144 Personally, I don't find the tagline particularly distinctive.

Well, so were 'Alien' and 'Star Wars'.

The movie that makes a legend come to life.

<snip>

We used to have a running joke at work: 'He was a cop on the edge' was our tag line from some imaginary ex-drunk loner cop split from his wife movie. When we saw someone becoming irritated about something this was routinely adapted to: 'He was a librarian on the edge', 'He was an accountant on the edge', 'He was a bus driver on the edge' etc.

Then this happened http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113010/posters (can you make out that top tag line?) and we gave up.

cheers
