My answers/guesses below:

I don't think Ontario extends that far west, but I'm not sure.

No. Massachusetts is in between.

I think so. Isn't Chicago on Lake Michigan?

I think so, at the NW corner of PA.

Yes, Mobile is on the Gulf.

No. Massachusetts is in between.

Yes. I have been to the short stretch of NH coast.

No. Idaho is in between.

Pretty sure it's no. North Carolina is in between.

Pretty sure it's no.

Probably yes.

Yes, along the western edge of PA.

Dang. Minnesota and Michigan have no *land* border, but they have a water border in Lake Superior, don't they? Which is why Ontario *doesn't* have a water border with Wisconsin. Oh well.

Separated by Illinois (or Michigan if you go by water).

Water border in Lake Michigan.

No. I don't think Ontario extends that far west.

No.

Yes.

Yes. Erie Pennsylvania borders the Lake (Presque(Sp?) Island Pennsylvania is in the lake).

Yes.

No.

Yes though only for a very short stretch.

No.

No. The only states that border South Carolina are North Carolina and Georgia.

No. Michigan borders Wisconsin not Minnnesota.

I don't know where Nuevo Leon is? (I assume it is in Mexico).

Yes, the northern panhandle of West Virginia extends up the western border of Pennsylvania and for a suprisingly large distance. If you head west from Pittsburgh, the first state you come to is West Virginia.

Followup U.S. Geography quiz. (no fair peeking at the map!)

1) What is the northern-most point in the continental U.S. is in which state?

2) What is the name of the only U.S./Canadian international park? What state and what province share the park?

3) Which is closer to Atlanta Georgia, Detriot Michigan or Miami Florida?

4) The highest sand dunes in the U.S. are in which state?

5) What is the highest mountain in the continental U.S. and where is it?

6) Is it possible to sail from Lake Superior to Lake Michigan without passing through any part of any other Great Lake? How about from Lake Superior to Lake Huron?

7) Which is farther north, Erie Pennsylvania or Cape Cod Massachusetts?

8) What city is nearest to Mount Rushmore?

9) Where is 'Four Corners?'

10) Is the majority of South America west of or east of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania?

11) In which state is Crater Lake?

12) What are the only two states that border 8 other states?

Maine. (or Alaska, though the conventional definition of 'continental US' errnoneously excludes it)

Niagra Falls. (slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch ...) New York/Ontario.

Detroit. Atlanta is surprisingly far west. Another surprising one is that Baltimore, MD is closer than Philadelphia, PA to Pittsburgh, PA

California

Washington state, but I forget the mountain. Or maybe it's Mt. Washington and I forget the state.

Erie.

Out west somewhere. Colarado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah?

East.

Nevada.

Kentucky and Tennessee

Glenn Rhoads:

Matthew Russotto:

Minnesota, if Alaska is being excluded. How many other states extend further north than Maine?

Nope, those are two separate parks. It's Montana and... hmm. British Columbia, I think. maps generally show the name as Waterton-Glacier International Park in Canada, but Glacier National Park in the US. (And just to make it more confusing, there is a *separate* Glacier National Park elsewhere in B.C.)

Mt. McKinley/Denali, Alaska. But if we're excluding Alaska, isn't it Mt. Whitney, California? (It's tricky because most of the next-highest peaks after it are in Colorado.)

Yes to both, I think. Of course, Lakes Huron and Michigan are really one lake anyway.

Of well-known places, the nearest is Rapid City, SD. (Cf. the movie 'North by Northwest'.) I don't assert that there isn't a smaller place that's also classified as a city.

Right. Where is the similar point involving Canadian provinces and territories?

Oregon.

*Missouri* and Tennessee.

Counting both provinces and territories, which one or ones have the corresponding record for Canada?

(All answers from memory.)

Looks like I failed.

Ouch. This one I was reasonably confident of. Guess I better study a map if I ever get a chance to go on Jeopardy.

What makes those the same park, but Niagra Falls two separate parks? Is there a unified authority administering it?

I knew that one; again I assumed Alaska was excluded.

A check of the almanac reveals that you are correct. I was thinking of Mt. Ranier, which is smaller than Whitney and three Colorado peaks.

Mine was a total shot in the dark.

Drat. I knew the area of the country they had to be in, so I guessed in

Turns out I was wrong here; it's just across the line into Alberta.

That's Niagara, by the way.

On checking this out, I find that Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park actually consists of Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada plus Glacier National Park in the US. I presume this means there are three administrations, but I didn't search far enough to confirm this. In any case, the area certainly carries the official designation of 'international park', while the Niagara parks do not.
