Here is a puzzle given to me by a young friend of mine (13 years old). Here are two groups of letters. One of the groups is missing an entry, can you guess which group and what the missing letter(s) is/are?

Additionally, why are they missing?

GROUP 1: GtG, BB, D, N, O, O, G, F, K, D, B, B, B, B

GROUP 2: GtG, FB, SG, MB, PT, G, L, A

It took me a while but I eventually got it, Good Luck!

This is pretty culture-specific, but:

Group 2. B. (Hint: Additionally, one could argue that GtG should be GtW.)

Correct - Well Done! (Sorry about missing the T from Group 1 - that wasn't fair). And Why?

(The reason you are correct will show why it is GtG)

Initial puzzle as spoiler space, except I've added the 'T' to group 1 that was posted separately.

The spoiler is really down there, though.

Well, it must be the ones who started out together, maybe from Rivendell. Now that I think about it, shouldn't it be TO in Group 1? (He was called Oakenshield an awful lot.) It's true G was tG then.

But should GtG be in group 1 at all, since BB was added specifically to avoid a count of 13? Can't remember the initial conditions for group 2 butr ISTR that GtG => GtW 1/2 way.

Quite true. He was never actually in the party, merely travelling alongside for part of the way - he made that perfectly clear. Still, it does depend how you phrase the conditions.
